Technical Education Commissioner, Ufoh commends Oborevwori on education reforms

Delta State is redefining the educational landscape by prioritizing technical education as a critical driver of youth empowerment and economic growth. Hon. Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, the Honourable Commissioner for Technical Education, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visionary leadership in aligning education reforms with the state’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

Delta State is the first in Nigeria to establish a dedicated Ministry of Technical Education, a move Hon. Ufoh describes as groundbreaking. “This administration recognizes the vital role of technical education in equipping young people with skills that make them self-reliant and productive,” he stated.

The government has embarked on constructing model technical colleges in key areas such as Omadino, Irri, Akugbene, and Kiagbodo, with facilities designed to meet university standards. These colleges are equipped with cutting-edge tools and led by qualified teachers.

“The overwhelming turnout during our entrance examinations shows the growing recognition of technical education’s value.

“Our classrooms are now filled, reflecting parents’ confidence in the state’s commitment to preparing students for a brighter future”, Hon. Ufoh noted.

Delta State’s technical colleges recently showcased students’ remarkable talents during a technical exhibition. Among the displayed projects were electric cars, hospital beds, ovens, school furniture, and even a tomato-grinding machine.

“These innovations demonstrate that our students are acquiring skills that are practical and relevant. They are prepared to contribute to the state’s development and compete globally,” Hon. Ufoh remarked.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) recently accredited Delta State’s technical colleges, granting them the authority to issue National Skill Qualifications (NSQ) certificates. This milestone enables graduates to pursue opportunities both locally and internationally.

“This certification opens doors for our students to work anywhere in the world, showcasing the global relevance of the skills they’ve acquired,” Hon. Ufoh emphasized.

Hon. Ufoh underscored the importance of fostering self-employment among youths. “We aim to move from a dependency on white-collar jobs to a focus on production. By equipping students with practical skills, we ensure they can create their own opportunities and contribute to societal growth.”

The Commissioner praised Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to ensuring value for money and project quality. “His hands-on approach ensures that every naira is judiciously spent, and projects meet the highest standards. He personally inspects projects to ensure contractors deliver as promised,” he said.

Delta State’s emphasis on technical education is setting a benchmark for other states to follow. By investing in skills development, the government is empowering a generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

As Hon. Ufoh concluded, “Under the M.O.R.E Agenda, Delta State is not only transforming education but also ensuring that our youths are equipped to lead the state and the nation into a more productive future.”

Delta State’s bold steps in education reform underscore its commitment to creating a self-reliant, skilled, and globally competitive workforce.
