Tension in Effurun as Two Igbo Traders Reportedly Killed by Hausa Traders

Palpable tension enveloped Refinery Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, on Monday following the alleged killing of two Igbo traders by some Hausa traders during an argument.

Eyewitnesses said the disagreement between the traders turned violent, resulting in the stabbing of the two Igbo men, who reportedly died on the spot.

Soldiers stationed in the area were said to have swiftly intervened, apprehending the suspected killers and whisking them away to an undisclosed location.

However, the situation took a violent turn when aggrieved Igbo traders and sympathizers, in apparent retaliation, barricaded Refinery Road and attacked Hausa tricycle riders plying the route, leading to chaos and disruption of movement in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives have been deployed to restore calm, while residents and business owners around Refinery Road are said to be living in fear of possible reprisal attacks.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
