Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is in Brazil with President Bola Tinubu for the 17th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to hold from July 6-7, 2025.
The summit, hosted by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, focuses on inclusive and sustainable governance, addressing climate change, health, artificial intelligence, and development financing.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, attended as part of the Nigerian delegation led by the President.
He was among five Nigerian governors, including Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger), who joined Tinubu to participate in the summit.
As a BRICS partner country since January 2025, Nigeria engaged in discussions centered on the theme: “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”
Governor Oborevwori was present to welcome President Tinubu at Galeão Air Force Base on July 4, 2025, ahead of the summit.
Governor Oborevwori’s presence underscores Delta State’s drive to strengthen global partnerships and attract investments in agriculture, energy, and solid minerals.
