Tinubu Sends Delegates To Support Super Falcons At The WAFCON Final

Ahead of the highly anticipated Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level presidential delegation to Rabat, Morocco, to lend his administration’s full support to the Super Falcons.

The Nigerian national women’s football team is set to face host nation Morocco in the championship decider at the Olympic Stadium.

In a statement personally signed on Saturday, Tinubu conveyed that the delegation’s primary mission is to express the profound backing of the Nigerian government and its populace, and to enthusiastically cheer the team on as they vie for victory.

The distinguished delegation includes the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite; and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim.

Tinubu lauded the Super Falcons, recognising that they ‘stand at the cusp of history’ as they compete in the 2024 WAFCON final.

He praised their ‘awe-inspiring’ performance throughout the tournament over the past three weeks, highlighting how they have consistently represented the nation with immense pride, honour, and strength on the continental stage.

“On the pitch and off the pitch, you have demonstrated true sportsmanship. I was delighted to see photographs of your visit to the injured Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana following the semi-final match.

That simple act of compassion reflects our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection, which we Africans hold in high regard.

“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions. Unbeaten in the group stages, victorious in the knockout rounds, and conceding only a goal in the semi-finals. Apart from this, you have emerged triumphant in all your previous nine finals”, Tinubu.

Tinubu conveyed that the entire country stands in solidarity with the Super Falcons, offering fervent prayers for their triumphant performance.

He highlighted the team’s unwavering determination to secure a historic tenth continental championship.
“I thank the families of the Super Falcons team, coaches, friends, the Nigerian Community in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for their steady support throughout this competition.

“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you. I look forward to receiving the team, the trophy, and the officials in Abuja.”
