High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has been honoured with an honorary doctorate by Edwin Clark University (ECU), Kiagbodo, Delta State.
The recognition was conferred on him during the institution’s combined 4th–7th convocation ceremony held over the weekend, celebrating his outstanding contributions to educational growth and human capacity development in the Niger Delta.
Tompolo received the Honorary Doctorate of Laws (LL.D) Honoris Causa, while UK-based financial expert and chairman of Ultra Goldfield Logistics Limited, Dr. Bade Adeshina, was awarded a Doctor of Management Science (D.MSc) (Honoris Causa) in Entrepreneurial Finance and Management.
The honour acknowledges Tompolo’s pivotal role in establishing key educational institutions in the region.
He was instrumental in the take-off of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, providing its initial temporary campus at the Mieka Diving Institute, Kurutie, in 2014. He also built a 250-room hostel to support learning and create opportunities for Niger Delta youths.
Represented at the convocation by Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Registrar of NMU, Okerenkoko, Tompolo extended congratulatory messages to the university management and the graduating class. The recognition adds to his growing list of academic honours, including an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy of Education bestowed on him by NMU in November 2023.
ECU Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Samuel Tita Wara, announced the graduation of 463 students across various disciplines. The event was attended by dignitaries from universities and polytechnics across the country, highlighting its academic significance.
