Two million residents enrolled in Delta health insurance scheme – Delta govt

The Delta State government says two million residents have enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme within seven years.

The Director General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Okpoveta, stated this on Monday during the distribution of health insurance cards to 100 enrollees at Onicha-Olona in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “I am immensely delighted to stand before you all today as we gather to celebrate the remarkable generosity and compassion of the Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation, which has set a shining example for all to follow.

“The foundation purchased health insurance for 100 vulnerable individuals in the community in response to the clarion call of the DSCHC to all people of goodwill to key into the Indigent enrollee adoption initiative of the commission.

“This is not just an act of charity; it is a demonstration of profound empathy and a tangible commitment to the well-being of our people.

“Today, through these initiatives, we have been able to significantly increase healthcare coverage and improve health outcomes for our people.

As of the end of March 2024, our enrolment statistics stand at two million people have been insured. This figure is a testament to the trust and confidence that the people of Delta State have placed in our commission and its programmes.

“Healthcare should not be a luxury reserved for the privileged few; it is a fundamental human right that must be guaranteed to all.”

Okpoveta commended the foundation for purchasing health insurance for the vulnerable members of the community, noting that the foundation had demonstrated an understanding of the principle behind the scheme.

He said with only N7,000, an individual could purchase a health insurance card to access quality health care throughout the year.
