A two-month-old baby, Riches Oghale, was reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen riding a commercial tricycle along the NNPC Bypass near Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which took place on Monday afternoon, has left residents and commuters along the busy route in shock, raising fresh concerns about public safety in the area.
The kidnapping reportedly happened around 4:00 p.m. near the traffic light by Delta Careers College, a spot typically crowded with both vehicles and pedestrians.
The baby’s mother, Mrs. Rita Oghale, recounted that she was returning home with her children after boarding a commercial tricycle from Shaguolor Junction to Airport Road. Alongside her and her children were two other passengers—a man and a woman seated at the back of the vehicle.
According to Mrs. Oghale, the situation escalated when the tricycle reached the NNPC Bypass near the Delta Careers College fence. The male passenger suddenly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her.
“He demanded my baby, and before I could react, he forcefully took my two-month-old from my arms,” she said. The suspect also recorded her phone number, pushed her and her other child out of the tricycle, and sped off with the infant.
The abducted child has been identified as Riches Oghale.
Mrs. Oghale confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police, and investigations are ongoing to locate and rescue her baby. She appealed to the public for any information that could help in recovering her child, urging anyone with relevant details to contact the nearest police station or security agency.
“I am begging Nigerians to help me. I just want my baby back alive,” she pleaded.
At the time of reporting, the Delta State Police Command had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
