The Udu Local Government Security Committee has reaffirmed its ban on the sale and use of knockouts during the festive season, directing security agencies to arrest defaulters.
The decision was reached on Thursday, December 18, 2025, during a security meeting held at Otor-Udu, presided over by the council’s Executive Chairman, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode.
Attendees included heads of security agencies, vigilante groups, and other stakeholders in the Delta State local government area.
Reaffirming the council’s zero-tolerance policy, the committee mandated vigilante groups and statutory security forces to apprehend anyone caught selling or using knockouts anywhere in Udu.
Speaking at the meeting, Oyibode stressed that the measure aims to protect lives and property, as indiscriminate use of knockouts often causes injuries, fatalities, panic, and security breaches during celebrations.
“The protection of lives and maintenance of peace are the government’s primary responsibilities,” he said, adding that his administration would not compromise on security.
Oyibode urged residents, community leaders, parents, and youths to comply with the directive and report violations to authorities.
He assured citizens that the council, in collaboration with security agencies, would heighten surveillance and enforcement to guarantee a peaceful and safe festive period.
The committee concluded by calling on residents to celebrate responsibly, promoting harmony, safety, and communal well-being across Udu.
This local ban aligns with statewide measures in Delta, where police have prohibited fireworks and knockouts to prevent criminals from exploiting the noise for illicit activities during Yuletide.
