Udu LGA Residents Applauds Council Chairman Over Clearing of Drainages

Some residents of Udu Local Government Area have applauded the massive clearing of blocked drainages, opening of canals and natural waterways by the Olorogun Vincent Oyibode-led administration of Udu Local Government in collaboration with the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

The residents who spoke to our correspondent commended the council chairman, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, for the steps taken to address the perennial flooding that has plagued the locality for some years.

Before the massive clearing of drainages, opening of blocked canals and natural waterways, most residents of Udu battled with perennial flooding, especially during the rainy season.

Investigation revealed that for years these canals and natural waterways have not been cleared, which was largely responsible for the flooding of some parts of the local government area.

Worried about the situation, the chairman of Udu Local Government, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, sought the assistance of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, to enable the council to open up the blocked drainages and allow for free flow of water.

Some of the residents who were visibly happy hailed the flood control initiative by Olorogun Oyibode saying it will help to mitigate flooding in most areas in Udu.

The residents, including Evangelist Kelly Kings and Mr Emuoborwosa Broadric, disclosed that the clearing of the drainage channels and canals has improved the free flow of water, which they said has channelled to the river.

They, however, called on all to join hands with the council chairman in addressing the perennial flooding in some parts of Udu and to stop erecting structures on natural waterways.

For weeks now, the Olorogun Vincent Oyibode-led administration has embarked on a massive clearing of drains, canals and natural waterways.
