Ughelli community thrown into mourning as 3 die in car accident

Unenurhie community in Evwreni kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state was on 18th January, 2025 thrown into mourning as three young secondary school leavers, one male and two females died in a ghastly motor accident along the Ughelli/Patani federal highway in one day.

The accident which was described as fatal by road users and community people who rushed to the accident scene immediately the bad news filtered into the community said the accident happened as a result of a truck that broke down in the middle of the road immediately after the Unenurhie/Uwheru bridge.

Responents speaking the following morning in the community with tears all over their faces, said the victims were driving a lady’s bike to the nearby community of Uwheru while it was already late in the night.

Adding that unknowing to the driver of the bike, there was a faulty vehicle on the road, saying that he mistakenly ran into the truck right in the middle of the road because there were no indicators or road signs by the truck driver to show road users that his vehicle broke down on the way.

The accident victims whose names were given as Nicholas Atori (m), Glory Sunday (f) and Ufuoma James (f) were buried by their family members as the truck driver and owner are still nowhere to be found.

However, all efforts to reach the DTO, Ughelli Police Station, the Road Safety officers and the president-general of Unenurhie community for comments proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
