Indigenes of Agbowhiame Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have appealed to the Delta State Government to prevail on the management of Tasaniola Nigeria Limited, an oil drilling firm operating in the area to officially recognise them as host community.
The protesting Indigenes appealed to the government to prevail on the company to fulfill the agreement signed before the commencement of oil exploration activities in their new site co-hosted by them and their neighbour Otu-Jeremi community.
The protesters led by the President of Agbowhiame Community, Mr Emmanuel Osieta said that the protest became necessary following the refusal of the oil firm to negotiate with them, recognise them as the host community as well as pay compensation to the families who own the lands hinting that part of the land where the oil exploration activities is to be carried out belongs to their community.
Mr Osieta wondered why the oil firm decided to deal with only their neighbour, excluding them from the process, saying that with the local content act now fully operational, indigenes of the community should also be given employment slots and be allowed to do other forms of jobs on the site.
He, however, appealed to the Delta State Government to direct Tasaniola Nigeria Limited to do the needful before they would be allowed to commence drilling activities. The people of Agbowhiame Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area are mainly farmers.
