The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the creative industry, offering young talents in entertainment a platform to rise to national and global prominence.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori made this known during the maiden edition of the Ukodo Festival, held at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba. The event, organized by the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, showcased a colorful blend of music, comedy, and cultural displays from across Delta’s diverse ethnic groups.
Represented by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Governor Oborevwori applauded the vibrant talents of young Deltans who performed at the festival.
“As an administration, we will continue to support these talents because in them, we see a wealth of new discoveries. Delta State goes far beyond oil—we are a hub for talent,” the governor stated.
He added, “While we are known as the number one oil-producing state, we are also leading in talent production. Be it in acting—hence our title as the home of Nollywood—or in music and comedy, Delta is paving the way. We are also at the forefront of educational development, making Delta a place to be.”
Touching on his administration’s MORE agenda, Governor Oborevwori described the Ukodo Festival as a symbol of joy and unity for all Deltans.
“The Ukodo Festival represents happiness, fun, and our cultural identity. Our infrastructural development across ethnic divides is creating bridges of possibilities and radiating joy across the state,” he said.
He assured that the festival would become an annual celebration, growing to include participation from all corners of the state.
The night was brought to life by dazzling lights and vibrant decorations that kept a crowd of fans energized well into the early hours. The festival featured thrilling performances from emerging and established artists, including Rude Boy, Papi Urhobo, Solar X, and Harrysong.
In a chat with entertainment journalists, Harrysong expressed his excitement: “The Ukodo Festival is a dream come true. It’s not just a new celebration—it’s the flavor that Delta brings to Nigeria, Africa, and the world.”
He hailed the festival as a valuable platform for rising musicians, dancers, comedians, and Nollywood talents. “Our Governor is fulfilling his MORE agenda, and we will continue to support this vision,” he said.

I thought Ukodo is a name of a delicacy in Urhobo? What’s the connection between the festival and food?
