Fear Grips Umeh Community Over Alleged Herdsmen Attacks

Residents of Umeh community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State are said to be living in anxiety following reports that suspected herdsmen have occupied nearby bushes and are carrying out attacks on locals.

Raising the concern, a community leader, Akpovienehe Duncan Afahakor, alleged that the armed men have taken control of routes leading to farmlands and have been attacking motorcycle riders around the Umeh bridge.

According to him, a youth was recently shot in the leg during one of the incidents, prompting many farmers to abandon their pepper, cassava and plantain farms. This situation, he said, has increased fears of food scarcity and growing insecurity in the area.

While residents are calling on security agencies to urgently step in, the Isoko South Local Government has said it will soon state its position on the issue. Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command disclosed that it has not yet received any formal report regarding the alleged attacks.
