The Umiaghwa-Abraka Kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday marked the 14th coronation anniversary of its traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty (Air Vice Marshal) Lucky Ochuko Ararile (Rtd), Avwaeke I.
To commemorate the occasion, the monarch led his people in a thanksgiving service at First Baptist Church, Oria, appreciating God for a peaceful reign and the progress recorded since he ascended the throne.
Following the service, two of the four ruling houses Ovwodo and Oviedo paid homage to the king at his palace, while the remaining houses, Orhuabor and Eseme/Urhuagbesa, were scheduled to do so on Monday. Speaking afterward, the monarch expressed gratitude for the show of support and gifts, noting that although the kingdom has made significant strides, more development projects are still in the pipeline.
He acknowledged the contributions of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to the kingdom but appealed for even greater support in addressing local needs.
The king urged indigenes to continue promoting the community and prayed for more government attention and development. He revealed that after the completion of Ekresheme Street, the next project would be the road linking Udumere to the railway.
On electricity, he said power supply has improved but encouraged residents still without electricity to come forward so their concerns can be addressed. He also disclosed that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) will handle the road from Salubi to the Grammar School.
Ararile further announced plans for a solar power project in Oria, noting that Uruagbesa community has already provided land, with documentation nearing completion for work to begin. He added that the project would not only serve Abraka but also benefit nearby communities like Obiaruku and Orogun.
The monarch invited investors to establish businesses in the kingdom, assuring them of land allocation with a two-year development window, after which unused land would be reclaimed.
As part of his commitment to the kingdom’s growth, he donated $10,000 towards the construction of a new palace estimated to cost two billion naira.
The Secretary of the Traditional Council, Chief Basil Iwhiwhu, described the celebration as a joyful occasion, noting that the homage by the ruling houses reflected appreciation for the king’s impactful leadership over the past 14 years.
He highlighted improvements across the kingdom, including access to clean water, better roads, and improved electricity, as well as youth empowerment initiatives that have helped maintain peace and stability.
He also prayed for continued wisdom and strength for the monarch. Similarly, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Pastor Festus Egwhrudje, thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event and commended the ruling houses for their generous support.
