Urhobo Day 2025: Okorodudu Rallies Urhobo Nation Behind New UPU Leadership

The Executive Director of Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) and Chairman of the Urhobo Day 2025 Planning Committee, Olorogun (Dr.) Ebenezer Okorodudu, has called on the Urhobo Nation to give full support to the new leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU).

He made the appeal yesterday during an inter-denominational thanksgiving service held to mark the Urhobo National Day Celebration at the Urhobo House in Uvwiamuge-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Okorodudu urged all Urhobo sons and daughters to embrace unity and stand behind the newly inaugurated UPU executive. He encouraged those with valuable ideas for the advancement of Urhobo land to bring them forward for collective progress.

Speaking about his long-standing involvement with the UPU, he noted that although he is not an official member of the union, he has been called upon to serve for more than 16 years.

“The UPU has always considered me worthy of service, and each time I have given my best with loyalty and dedication,” he said.

“Once again, the UPU has entrusted me with an assignment, and I remain grateful for the confidence they have shown in me.”

He also expressed gratitude to the President-General of UPU, Barr. Ese Gam, praising his humility, cooperation, and trust, which he said made the committee’s work smoother.

Okorodudu commended the Urhobo Nation for conducting what he described as one of the most peaceful and transparent elections in recent UPU history, noting that “everyone saw how credible the process was.”

He further urged Urhobo people to support the UPU financially, revealing plans to set up an endowment fund to ensure sustainable financing for the union. Under the proposal, every Urhobo indigene would contribute at least ₦1,000 monthly to strengthen the union’s long-term financial base.

During the thanksgiving service, Rev. Diamond Afor preached on the theme “To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Expected” (Matthew 3:1–12), encouraging the new UPU leadership to work harder and collaborate with all stakeholders for the progress of the Urhobo Nation.
