The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Southern California Chapter, has inaugurated an antenatal reception hall at the Uwherun Primary Healthcare Centre to improve service delivery for pregnant women.
President of the chapter, Mr. Paul Umukoro, said the project was executed following a request by the Odion R’Ode of Uwherun Kingdom.
The Uwherun Primary Healthcare Centre popularly called by the residents as maternity, was established in 1952 and receives over seventy expectant mothers for antenatal services on weekly basis.
The increase in population of the Uwherun Kingdom has overwhelmed the available facility as it can no longer cater for the needs of pregnant women.
Relief came to the health workers and expectant mothers at the Uwherun Primary Healthcare Centre when the UPU Southern California decided to build a modern antenatal reception hall following the request of the Monarch of Uwherun Kingdom. Simpson Sapele Obruche the first.
Inaugurating the antenatal reception hall, the President of UPU Southern California, Mr Paul Umukoro, disclosed that the Odion r’de of Uwherun Kingdom asked for the project when the branch was to provide palliative to four Urhobo communities affected by the 2022 flood.
The President of the UPU Southern California represented by Mr William Umukoro noted that while leaders of the other three communities asked for food assistance, the Odion r’de requested for the antenatal reception hall as the priority of his subjects.

The Odion r’de of Uwherun Kingdom, Simpson Sapele Obruche the first thanked the UPU Southern California for the good gesture to the people of his kingdom.
The Uwherun King noted that UPU has been a stabilizing and development force for the Urhobo nation calling Urhobos back home particularly Uwherun people to unite and work for the development of the kingdom.
President General of Uwherun Kingdom, Mr Wilson Umukoro represented by his Secretary, the Contractor who built the project, Igho Arhagba, a lawyer, the Matron of the Uwherun Primary Healthcare Centre, Mrs Eruwaje Efe, and the official of World Development Committee, Christmas Erukakpo expressed gratitude to UPU Southern California for its intervention.
The antenatal reception hall for Uwherun Primary Healthcare Centre has matron and palpitation rooms and furnished with chairs.
