WAFU-B Champions League Qualifiers: Delta Queens goalkeeper targets clinical win against Sam Nelly on Friday

Delta Queens shot stopper Anderline Mgbechi is targeting another clinical victory against Sam Nelly in the ongoing WAFU-B Champions League qualifiers in Benin City on Friday, August 25th, 2023.

The goalkeeper was instrumental to Delta Queens not conceding a goal in the first game against USFA of Burkina Faso. She would hope to bring her massive experience to play in their second encounter against the Beninois side.

Mgbechi is glad of her exploits in goal which helped her side to keep a clean sheet against USFA of Burkina Faso and detailed the win as a morale booster and soothing relief in search of glory.

“First of all, I want to give thanks to God because without him by our side, we won’t be here,” she exclusively told Nigeriafootball.ng.

“I feel so happy and confident helping my team to keep a clean sheet in the match. It was a very important win in the first game but first impression matters alot, like wining our first match will bost our moral against our next match.

The Super Falconets goalie expressed optimism in winning their next game, saying that: “We are expecting winning to overthrow our opponent in the next match, infact we are going for winning without conceding.”

Mgbechi was awarded the best goalkeeper in the 2023 NWFL Premiership season and had a total of nine clean sheets.

The match between the Delta Queens of Nigeria and Sam Nelly of Benin Republic is set for 3pm Friday, Nigerian time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

WAFU-B Champions League: Delta Queens through to last four with a game to spare

Nigeria champions, Delta Queens are through to the semi-final of the 2023 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership winners picked the semi-final ticket with a game to spare from Group A.

USFA of Burkina Faso’s 0-0 draw with Sam Nelly of Benin Republic ensured that the Asaba-based side will progress to the semi-final irrespective of the result of their last Group A game.

Tosan Blankson’s side opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over USFA on Sunday. Goals from Alaba Olabiyi, Chinaza Agoh, and Mercy Omokwo gave the Nigerian league holders a deserving win in their opening match of the tournament which serves as the qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The last group game between Delta Queens and Sam Nelly will determine the group winners and the second team that will progress to the semi-final from Group A alongside the Nigerian side.

Delta Queens need to avoid defeat to top the group which will set up a semi-final date with the second-placed team from Group B.

The overall winner of the tournament will represent the WAFU-B zone alongside Atletico FC of Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in November this year.

A new champion will emerge as the last two winners, Hassacas FC Ladies and Bayelsa Queens didn’t qualify for this year’s edition.
