Warri is set to host a new community-driven campaign on Saturday, November 8, focused on tackling drug abuse, cultism, and gender-based violence.
The event, which will take place at the Police ‘A’ Division, is a joint effort by civil society organizations, security agencies, and community leaders determined to unite against the growing threat of youth-related insecurity.
In recent weeks, Warri has experienced a worrying increase in cult-related violence, particularly around the Odion and Iyara areas, where at least two people have lost their lives in clashes between rival groups. Similar incidents have occurred in other parts of Delta State this year, prompting intensified police patrols, targeted raids, and collaboration with local vigilante groups to disrupt cult networks and seize weapons.
According to the Delta State Government, efforts to curb the violence now combine stricter law enforcement with stronger community engagement. Police operations have been stepped up in major hotspots, while partnerships with youth groups and traditional leaders aim to discourage cult recruitment and support rehabilitation programs for at-risk youths.
Organizers of the forthcoming one-day event emphasized that no family or community is immune to the impact of drugs, violence, or cultism. Their mission is to create a sustainable, community-led structure that brings residents, security agencies, schools, faith organizations, and youth groups together to prevent crime before it happens rather than simply responding after the damage is done.
