The Delta State Government has encouraged farmers to embrace innovation, form cooperatives, and make the most of government support, emphasizing that the MORE Agenda is focused on transforming agriculture into a key driver of growth, food security, and job creation.
This message was delivered by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori during the 2025 World Food Day celebration held yesterday at the Cenotaph in Asaba, themed “Hand in Hand for a Better Life and a Better Future.”
In his speech, delivered by the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, the Governor highlighted that farmers cannot thrive without adequate support, and a community that cannot feed itself cannot truly experience peace or development.
He stressed that Delta State is not just a consumer of food but is determined to become a leading producer, processor, and exporter.
He pointed out that a key aim of the MORE Agenda is to empower farmers by providing essential inputs, extension services, and access to financing, making agriculture both profitable and appealing, especially to young people.
Governor Oborevwori also highlighted Delta State’s openness to strategic partnerships with the private sector that link farmers directly to factories and markets. He emphasized the importance of investing in knowledge and innovation by training a new generation of farmers skilled in modern, climate-smart technologies to boost productivity while protecting the environment.
He added that this year’s theme is a powerful reminder that meaningful transformation can be achieved through strong partnerships.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Ada Val Arenyeka, Esq., emphasized that this year’s theme serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role food plays—not only as nourishment but also as the foundation of the economy, health, and the state’s shared future.
He pointed out that the celebration offers an opportunity to renew commitment to food security, raise awareness about healthy eating, and build stronger partnerships to support and empower farmers. He praised Governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership, noting that through the MORE Agenda, the governor has shown a clear determination to transform the agricultural sector into a major driver of growth and development, while also tackling hunger and unemployment across the state.
