Youths Should Be Strengthened for Community Development – Onyeme

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has emphasized the need to empower and strengthen youth organizations as a vital step towards the accelerated development of communities.

Sir Onyeme made this call on Tuesday during the Iwaji (New Yam Festival) of Ewulu Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Highlighting the central role of young people in grassroots development, the Deputy Governor urged community leaders and stakeholders to encourage the youths to be progressive in their thoughts and actions.

“The youths drive the progress of communities, so they must be supported to be progressive in their reasoning for the development of our communities,” Onyeme said.

Sir Onyeme also commended the Obi of Ewulu Kingdom for his efforts in uniting the people and ensuring peace, stressing that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of conflict.

He further expressed concern that Ewulu, despite being an ancient kingdom, lags behind in development compared to newer communities.

“Ewulu is an ancient Kingdom, but it is sad that the Kingdom that started years ago is not as developed as Kingdoms that started yesterday. I will do everything within my powers to make this community more progressive, build this community, and make it the envy of others,” he pledged.

The monarch also reaffirmed the community’s loyalty to the current administration, stating: “We are fully behind the Deputy Governor and the government of Delta State.”

The event, which brought together indigenes and guests, also showcased the rich cultural heritage of Ewulu Kingdom and highlighted the significance of the New Yam Festival as a unifying cultural tradition.
