‘Zanzibar Play Well, They’re Fast’ – Coach Chelle

The head coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Éric Chelle, has conveyed his confidence in the squad’s preparation and praised Zanzibar’s playing style in anticipation of their friendly match on Monday.

During a pre-match press conference held in Zanzibar, Chelle shared details regarding the team’s training regimen and tactical goals as they prepare for the 2024 African Nations Championship.

“Regarding our preparation, we commenced two weeks ago with an initial camp in Ikenne, close to Lagos,” Chelle stated. “We have worked extensively—physically, tactically, and technically. Currently, we are continuing our preparation here in Zanzibar.”

Chelle expressed gratitude to the hosts for their warm welcome, saying, “Thank you for your hospitality once again. I truly appreciate it.”

He praised the facilities available in Zanzibar, which he believes will significantly support their training objectives.

“The infrastructure in Zanzibar is commendable. I believe you have excellent facilities. Thus, your environment is ideal for us. We can further enhance our tactical and technical training.”

Looking forward to the match on Monday, Chelle remarked, “We have an exciting game scheduled against Zanzibar. I consider this a strong team with an excellent technical staff and talented players.

“It promises to be an outstanding match, and we must prepare thoroughly to compete against a team like Zanzibar.”

He characterized the upcoming match as an important assessment for his team in preparation for CHAN 2024.

“For us, this is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the CHAN. Our goal during the CHAN is to approach each game individually, one at a time, and we will evaluate our performance in this competition.
