No fewer than 8,000 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) within Agbor towns in Delta State on Thursday dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what they alleged to be disunity in All Progressive Congress (APC).
The decampees trooped into the Open field in Agbor, blocking various roads within, including stampeding market women who thronged into their midst to catch a glimpse of the event that was seen as a carnival concert in the area
Speaking to journalists, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Agbor towns, Mr Obiazi Uwujaren said that the decampees alleged disunity in All Progressive Congress (APC) after the death of Dr Cairo Ojougboh, adding that the decampees were compromised All Progressive Congress (APC) members in Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas in Delta State.
”As members of one family, we at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) don’t discriminate because we know that there is no APC in Delta State. Delta State is fully PDP and we are excited that All Progressive Congress (APC) members have moved into their house unlike when they were in the dark.”
He disclosed that the defection of All Progressive Congress (APC) to PDP has shown the landmark of the largest party in Africa ( PDP).
Meanwhile, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who is among the decampees, Chief Napoleon Ohio said that they moved into PDP when it became clear that the death of Dr Cairo Ojougboh would create vacuum in the party adding that besides that, the party allegedly had been disorganized in the state for lack of unity and peaceful coexistence.
He noted that PDP as a firm believer of true democracy, would accommodate them and ensure that their interest will be taken care of.
Also Speaking, another APC leader who also was among the decampees, Mr Chris Asegbeye declared that they were happy as they are now back to PDP, promising that they will do their best in supporting efforts aimed at moving the PDP party forward at different levels
In another development, an ex-Commissioner and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate in the next local government elections, Engr Jerry Ehiwarior, has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as he marked one year in Office.
Ehiwarior who was full of praises for the Governor, said that he was grateful to have been part of the success story of Oborevwori’s administration in the last year. He Observed that the past year was eventful one, with numerous achievements recorded across all sectors by the state government, which has impacted meaningfully on Deltans.
While describing Governor Oborevwori as a visionary leader and an astute administrator, he noted that the implementation of the MORE Agenda by the state government has not only boosted human capacity but also enhanced infrastructural development across the three senatorial districts.
