Delta State House of Assembly has adopted the recommendations of the house committee on public accounts on the audited report of the Delta State Government for the year ended 31 December 2023.
The house during Wednesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor also adopted the recommendation from the Public accounts committee on the audited accounts of DESOPADEC for the year ended 31 December, 2023.
Presenting his report of the Auditor General (State) on the accounts of the Delta State Government for the year ended 31 December 2023, Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. James Augoye highlighted the financial statements as well as financial performance for the period under review.
Hon. Augoye who represents Okpe state Constituency said the committee made some observations and therefore recommended that factors inhibiting end-to-end computerization of financial transactions should be given urgent attention by MDAs.
The committee also recommended that the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue should adopt timely recovery of all outstanding PAYE taxes.
On the report of the Auditor General State on the accounts of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, the Public Accounts Committee Chairman, Hon. Augoye stated that upon observation and findings, the committee therefore recommends that the Commission intensify its IGR efforts through the use of Information Communication Technologies, ICT and also draw up realistic budget and revenue target for future performance.
The committee also recommended that prompt retirement of project monitoring expenditure be effected by the Commission to ensure transparency and accountability.
In separate motions, the Majority Leader, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi moved to receive the report and the house thereafter considered and adopted the recommendations of the Committee.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor while commending the chairman and members of the Public Accounts Committee for a thorough job on both reports, urged the clerk of the house, Mr Otto Aghoghophia to communicate the resolution of the house to the appropriate authorities.
The house thereafter adjourned plenary to Tuesday 5 November 2024.
