Delta govt approves funds for accreditation of courses in three newly established state universities, polytechnics

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has shown his commitment to raising the standard of education in the state by approving funds for the accreditation of courses in state-owned universities and polytechnics.

This move, which was announced by the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, is aimed at ensuring that courses offered by the schools are approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and uphold international standards in the institutions.

Prof. Tonukari acknowledged the importance of accreditation and expects good results from the accreditation of these institutions in 2024. He also urged the institutions to be more self-sustaining, reminding vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts of the state-owned tertiary institutions of the need to generate revenue internally.

Furthermore, he advised students to avoid cultism, examination malpractice, and other anti-social behaviours that could affect their future. He also added that entrepreneurship training has been integrated into the curriculum to ensure that students have practical skills and knowledge that can contribute to their future success.

The commissioner emphasized the transformative power of education by urging youths to be aware that education opens doors of opportunities to those who want to succeed in life. This is a positive step towards improving the quality of education in Delta State and ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their future endeavours.
