In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, non-governmental organization, HACEY, has partnered with Access Corporation to uplift 1,000 women in Asaba, Delta State.
This initiative took place at the Bethel Anglican ACM Hall, where participants received training in essential skills such as soap and detergent making, perfume production, air freshener crafting, and tailoring.
Speaking during the training, the Programme Team Lead of HACEY, Mr Bamidele Oyewumi, said the programme was designed to enhance the financial capacity of women and girls in rural communities in Delta State.
He said, “HACEY is a non-governmental organization focusing on how to improve the health and productivity of women in the community.”
“We are working with all stakeholders to ensure their healthy live and financial stability. That is what we called the ‘Sustainable Empowerment Program.”
“Part of the things we are doing is to build their skills for them to make money and manage their funds.”
“This project is supported by Access Corporation as our partner, and today we are empowering 1000 women to start a small scale business.”
He said the training was to equip beneficiaries with essential tools for digital marketing, enabling them to expand their businesses in today’s digital economy.
In her remarks, the representatives of Access Corporation, led by Mrs Milicent Ugwuah, said that empowerment of women was key to nation’s building.
She said, “Today, Access Corporation in collaboration with HACEY is empowering women because we know that women are pillars of society.”
“We have taught them on ways of getting money and how to manage the fund to support their family. We are looking at people in the rural communities who do not have means of catering for themselves.”
“For this location, we selected 1000 women and girls, this is an empowerment skills programme, where they were trained in five different skills.”
She noted that the gesture was a way of giving back to the society as part of their corporate social responsibility, hence training 1000 women and girls in various skills to enable them have business that will turn out money in their pockets.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs Amaka Odemene, thanked the sponsor of the programme, especially in this critical hardship facing the people.
“We are working with all stakeholders to ensure their healthy live and financial stability. That is what we called the ‘Sustainable Empowerment Programme.”
She said the skills learnt would go a long way to ameliorate their sufferings in the community.
