Abbi Grammar School wins Delta State Ndokwa Interschools Football Tournament

History has been made in Ndokwa, Delta State, as the region successfully hosted its largest-ever inter-school football competition. The Ndokwa Interschools Football Tournament, a landmark grassroots initiative, concluded with a thrilling final that showcased the immense talent of the region’s youth.

The tournament was organized and convened by Ifeanyi Samson Mogbolu, a rising community leader and youth advocate, under the platform of the Big Child Initiative for the Less Privileged.

Penalty Drama: Abbi Grammar School Emerges Victorious

The final match lived up to the hype, featuring a tense showdown between Abbi Grammar School and Ashaka Community School. After a hard-fought encounter, Abbi Grammar School edged out their opponents 6-5 via a dramatic penalty shootout.

As a reward for their excellence, the winning team was awarded a grand prize of ₦1 million. This significant investment serves as a strong statement of Mogbolu’s commitment to youth excellence and future leadership within the Ndokwa Nation.

Unprecedented Scale: 48 Schools Compete

The tournament set a new benchmark for grassroots development in Delta State. An unprecedented 48 secondary schools participated in the competition, making it the most coordinated and impactful event of its kind in the region’s history.

Conceived as an act of social responsibility, the initiative leveraged football as a unifying force. According to Mogbolu, the goal was to inspire hope, discover hidden talents, and strengthen the communal bonds between the various schools and towns in Ndokwa.

The Ndokwa Interschools Football Tournament was not just about the trophy; it was a scouting platform for future stars. Outstanding individual performances were recognized during the closing ceremony:

  • Most Valuable Player (MVP): Oyeme Joshua
  • Best Goalkeeper: Joseph Bethel

Mrs. Esvee Solomon, the project coordinator, revealed that plans are already in motion to elevate the careers of these young athletes. Ifeanyi Mogbolu has partnered with former Nigerian international striker Ibezito Ogbonna to place the standout players into reputable football academies. “These young athletes have emerged as symbols of the vast potential within Ndokwa Nation,” Solomon stated.

A Gathering of Leaders and Stakeholders

The event drew a high-profile audience of community leaders, traditional rulers, and youth advocates. Notable dignitaries in attendance included:

  • Hon. Charles Chukwuemeka Emetulu: Member representing Ndokwa West in the Delta State House of Assembly.
  • Comr. Sagboje Odiri Milton: Delta State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
  • Chief Patrick Onugbor: Traditional Ruler in Ndokwa Nation.
  • Ibezito Ogbonna: Former professional footballer (Israel).

Community leaders applauded the peaceful conduct and massive participation, describing the tournament as a historic milestone for the region. By providing a platform for 48 schools to compete, Ifeanyi Mogbolu has reinforced his leadership philosophy of inclusion and sustainable development.
