Academic Activities Begin in Public Schools Across Delta State

Normal academic learning has commenced in government owned public schools across Delta State with a call on parents to collect their children’s results without further delay.

The advice comes even as parents in rural schools still hold back their wards from accessing school. This is Uduere Primary school located in Uduere,a community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta state.

Three weeks after all schools in Delta State reopened for a new academic session, learners attendance is still not encouraging though learning has since commenced. Teachers in two classrooms were seen teaching the learners.

The Secretary, local education authority, Ughelli North local government area, Chief Pius Omubaye blamed parents for this development and adduced this to ignorance, poverty and illiteracy.

Head teacher of the primary school,Mrs Dorcas Onomeregwa said she met the leadership of Uduere community on the need to enlighten their parents to release their children to school.

Meanwhile, academic learning has kicked off at Ibru College,Agbarha- Otor. All the classrooms visited, recorded high turns out of students.

Principal of Ibru College, Agbarha- Otor,Mr Lucky Akporube who spoke off camera adduced the high student attendance to a conducive learning environment and discipline put in place by authorities of the government owned public school.

High attendance of students were also recorded at Otovwodo Grammar School, Otovwodo – Ughelli.Students and teachers were in many of the classrooms learning. Dr. Felix Onovughe ,the Principal and also chairman ANCOPPS in Ughelli North local government area lauded the state ministry of basic and secondary education for the introduction of scratch cards that enables students to access their results.

At Government College, Ughelli,full academic session to complete the term’s scheme of work could be noticed.
Principal of Government College Ughelli, Mr. Samson Oboh said steps have been taken to ensure that another global champion is recorded in the school that operates the boarding house.

Recall that a twelve year old junior secondary school two student, Master Wisdom Chukwuma led other four students to clinch victory at a world secondary school debate in Doha, Qater.

On skills acquisition,the Principal said there’s a workshop where students have learnt different skills and are using the products to better their lives and society.
