Ezewu Reaffirms Commitment to Skill Development

The Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has restated the state government’s resolve to foster creativity, innovation, and skills development among pupils at the basic level of education.

She disclosed this at the inaugural Public Primary Schools Cooking Competition, explaining that the programme aligns with the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda and its goal of “catching them young.”

Mrs. Ezewu explained that the competition was introduced to stimulate pupils’ creativity and innovative thinking while equipping them with practical skills outside the traditional classroom setting. She noted that true education goes beyond textbooks, stressing the importance of developing a child’s intellect, hands-on abilities, and imagination. According to her, the cooking competition is intended to help pupils uncover and nurture talents that may not be apparent through academic work alone.

In her remarks, the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor, praised the initiative, saying it would support the cognitive growth of learners. She added that education should extend beyond academic achievement and called for the early identification and development of vocational skills.

At the end of the competition, New Era Primary School, Okpanam, secured first place, while Ahabam Primary School and Uzoigwe Primary School, both in Asaba, came second and third respectively.
