Africa4Peace games village opens in Delta

The Africa4Peace Games Village Gym and Event Centre has officially opened in Ugolo-Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, marking a significant milestone in sports and peace development in the region.

The facility, designed to engage youths and promote peaceful coexistence, was inaugurated by the Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, represented by Mrs. Samirah Evru, Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Uvwie Local Government Area.

Hon. Oborevwori, in his address, described the games village as more than just a sports facility, calling it “a symbol of unity, development, and the power of sports in fostering peace across Africa.”

He emphasized the Delta State Government’s commitment to sports infrastructure under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, stating, “Our vision is to make Delta State the leading sports destination in Nigeria and Africa, and this facility aligns perfectly with that goal.”

The event was graced by notable figures, including Nigeria Mini-Football Association President, Alhaji Umar Datti, ex-Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba, and former Nigerian international Sam Sodje, who all toured the facility.

Comrade Sheriff Mulade, President of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) and the visionary behind the project, said the games village was established to keep youths engaged and deter them from activities that could threaten the state’s stability.

“We want to give our youths and veterans a place to stay fit and excel in sports. This is the first of its kind in Delta and the Niger Delta, and we hope to nurture talents who will represent Nigeria on national and international levels,” he said.

The Africa4Peace Games Village boasts a variety of facilities, including a basketball court, mini-football pitch, gym center, VIP lounge, and various indoor games such as snooker, chess, and table tennis.
