The Nigeria Police Force has announced that Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola has officially assumed duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in charge of the Delta State Command.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
CP Adesola replaces AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda, who was recently promoted and redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations.
According to the statement, CP Aina Adesola was born on September 2, 1968, and is from Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ondo State University, obtained in 1990, and joined the Nigeria Police Force in June 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after completing his training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
He was first posted to Delta State in 1996, where he served in Ogwashi-Uku, and has since built a wide-ranging career, occupying key operational, investigative, administrative, and training roles across the country. His previous postings include Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Aswani Division between 2012 and 2015, Officer-in-Charge of Homicide at the Edo State Command in 2016, and most recently Deputy Commandant of the Police College, Ikeja, following his promotion to Commissioner of Police in 2025.
In January 2026, he was redeployed to Delta State to lead the command.
Upon assuming office, CP Adesola assured residents of his commitment to strengthening existing security structures and enhancing proactive policing across the state. He called on the public to continue supporting the police and other security agencies, while urging young people to avoid criminal influences.
In his farewell remarks, AIG Abaniwonda thanked the Delta State Government and the people of the state for their cooperation during his tenure and appealed to them to offer the same level of support to the new commissioner.
