ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

ASUU

Due to the unmet payment of June salaries, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a nationwide indefinite strike across the country, urging its members to comply with the directive.

As according to Punch report, the action enforces ASUU’s “No Pay, No Work” stance, already effective at institutions like the University of Jos and University of Abuja, where academic activities have been suspended while polytechnic threatened to following suit.

The strike follows a National Executive Council (NEC) resolution, which mandates lecturers to stop work if salaries aren’t paid within the first three days of a new month.

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, blamed the switch from Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS) to Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS)  for worsening salary delays.

He said the issue isn’t technical but likely a deliberate move by government officials.

Meetings with the Education Minister and Accountant General, he added, yielded no results.
