Super Falcons forward, Omorinsola Babajide, has stated that her goal celebration during Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Tunisia was a tribute to the late Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota.
She shared this information while addressing the media after she and her teammates comfortably defeated the North African team on Sunday.
Babajide contributed a goal and an assist in the Group B match against Tunisia, which took place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
The former UD Tenerife player assisted Asisat Oshoala in scoring Nigeria’s first goal in the fourth minute and netted the second goal herself in the 45th minute.
Another substitute, Chiwendu Ihezuo, concluded the match with an additional goal in the second half.
In her remarks about her goal celebration, Babajide expressed that it was a sincere homage to the late Reds star, Diogo Jota, and his brother, who tragically passed away in a car accident.

She remarked, “It was for Diogo Jota and his brother as well. That was like one of his biggest celebrations at the club, especially. We refer to it as the signature celebration, really.”
Babajide will face significant competition to retain her position in the starting lineup when Nigeria competes against Botswana in their second group match on Wednesday.
This is due to the fact that Esther Okoronkwo, who took her place after halftime, provided an assist and was awarded Woman of the Match
