Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich delivered an impressive 10–0 victory over Auckland City in their opening match of the Club World Cup on Sunday night.
Vincent Kompany’s team broke the record for the biggest win in the tournament, previously held by Al Hilal’s 6–1 triumph against Al Jazira in 2022.
Jamal Musiala achieved a hat-trick, while Thomas Müller, Kingsley Coman, and Michael Olise contributed two goals each against the New Zealand league champions, whose roster includes part-time players like estate agents and teachers.
Bayern quickly established a 4–0 advantage midway through the first half, with Sacha Boey scoring in the 18th minute, followed by Olise in the 20th, and Coman in the 21st.
Müller, aged 35, added another goal in the 45th minute, before Olise netted his second during first-half stoppage time, bringing the score to 6–0.
On Friday, Auckland, who have won the OFC Champions League 13 times, will play against Benfica, while Bayern will compete against Argentine powerhouses Boca Juniors in Group C matches.
In an additional match, UEFA Champions League titleholders Paris Saint-Germain began Group B on a high note, defeating Atletico Madrid 4–0.
Fabián Ruiz got the scoring underway, and Vitinha added to PSG’s lead just before half-time, taking control of the match.

Senny Mayulu scored the third goal, and Lee Kang-in converted a late penalty to secure a decisive victory over Diego Simeone’s team, who found themselves down to ten men after Clément Lenglet was sent off for dissent following a second yellow card.
Referee István Kovács seemed to struggle with managing the intense match.
In another match, Palmeiras and Porto ended in a scoreless draw during their Group A opener at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday.
Porto’s temporary goalkeeper, Cláudio Ramos, delivered an outstanding performance, successfully keeping the Brazilian team at bay.
Palmeiras will next take on Al Ahly, while Porto is set to face Inter Miami in the upcoming round of matches on Thursday.
