The Executive Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Julius Takeme, on Friday, welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Delta State Government led by the Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Okenmor Tilije, who stood in for the Deputy Governor, Chief (Sir) Monday John Onyeme.
The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the Burutu Port Project and explore potential partnerships aimed at revitalizing the port’s operations.
The state delegation comprised important figures, including the Chairman of the Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), Chief Olorogun Lucky Oghene-Oghene Omoru, alongside other senior officials.
They were accompanied by Chief Kenneth Donye, CEO of Akewa Colmar Terminal Limited, the private company leading the port redevelopment project.
During the visit, the delegation, along with the council chairman and Akewa Colmar Terminal Limited representatives, surveyed the Agge River to gauge its depth and assess the viability of dredging it to accommodate large vessels. They also examined the existing port facilities managed by Akewa Colmar Terminal Limited.
In his address, Dr. Takeme expressed deep gratitude to the Deputy Governor and his team for their visit, highlighting the significant economic potential tied to the revival of the Burutu Port.
He pointed out that once the project is up and running, it would not only boost local economic activity but also create job opportunities for residents of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
He reaffirmed his confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Renewed Hope for the M.O.R.E Agenda, which emphasizes Meaningful Development and Opportunities for All.
Chief Kenneth Donye, in his overview, offered historical insights into the Burutu Port and its economic implications.

He underscored that a collaboration between the state government and Akewa Global Services could reshape the economic landscape of Delta State.
He expressed gratitude to the delegation and the council chairman for their backing and dedication to this vision.
His Royal Majesty, Bosu Dio, Ayamabulo I, the Pere of Iduwini Kingdom, also spoke to the delegation.
He urged the state government to support the port revival initiative and complete the permanent site of the Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, while also advocating for increased job opportunities at the institution.
In response on behalf of the state government, Chief Fidelis Tilije praised the council chairman for his leadership and proactive initiatives.
He remarked that the delegation was greatly impressed with the project’s potential and assured the team of the state’s readiness to pursue investment opportunities that would expedite the port’s revival.
