The people of Ophorigbala in Ughelli South Local Government Area have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for transforming their educational landscape with the construction and commissioning of a modern Science Laboratory and Computer Block at Ophorigbala Mixed Secondary School.
The facility, which was formally handed over to the Ministry of Secondary Education on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, underscores the administration’s focus on community development and its “Ukodo Na Tevwe” philosophy of shared prosperity.
Delta State Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highways), Comrade Reuben Izeze, who represented the government at the ceremony, praised the Governor’s responsiveness in fulfilling a long-standing request of community stakeholders. He revealed that the project held special meaning, as it was dedicated to honouring the service and sacrifices of retired educators, Chief Sir Eric Dubu Onyan Obofukoro and Chief Lady Princess Christiana Ewewu Obofukoro (née Mosheshe), who both served under the Post-Primary Education Board.
“For more than 12 years, Chief E.D.O. Obofukoro had appealed for this project. To see it delivered today is not just about infrastructure but about acknowledging the contributions of those who built our state through education,” Izeze said.
He added that the Governor also mandated a Corporate Social Responsibility package to benefit Ophorigbala leaders, women, and youths. This “stomach infrastructure” component, he explained, would soon be rolled out to further deepen the government’s bond with the community.
Excitement filled the town as residents described the development as a milestone that would not only enhance learning but also inspire younger generations to pursue academic excellence.
Many hailed the gesture as proof that the Oborevwori administration listens to its people and acts decisively.
With the new Science and Computer Block, Ophorigbala now joins the growing list of communities benefiting from the state’s renewed investment in education and youth empowerment.
