Delta Government working on remediation of oil spill sites – DESOPADEC MD

The Managing Director (MD) of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Chief Festus Ochonogor has expressed the state’s commitment towards making the environment of oil producing communities healthy.

Chief Ochonogor stated this during an interview at the ongoing UNFCCC COP28 in Dubai.

Chief Ochonogor said the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is committed to leaving a lasting legacy in making life bearable for residents of oil producing communities.

He said the governor on the assumption of office made environmental issues, especially in flood control and coastal erosion management in oil producing communities a priority.

According to him “The Delta State government is very much aware of oil pollution as a contributory factor for climate change. We know how these spilled oil releases a huge amount of carbon.

“The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is personally interested in what is being done to tackle emissions coming from oil spill.
“A lot is being done in our state to tackle this aspect of environmental degradation.”
