Members of the Delta State House of Assembly are currently grumbling over the delay in releasing constituency projects funds by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress members of the Delta legislature are frowning at the governor for not releasing constituency projects funds to them a year after the Assembly was inaugurated.
One of the aides to the lawmakers who did not want his name mentioned said that some of the members are using their money to execute constituency projects because they have made promises to the people.
He said, “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has not released constituency projects funds to the lawmakers.
“It is very bad to have delayed such and as I speak to you now, the lawmakers are not happy.
“Some of them have started executing some projects with their money because they promised their constituents during the election.”
Another close aide to the Speaker of the House, Mr Emomotimi Guwor, said that the issue of constituency projects funds resides in Government House and not with the Speaker.
He said, “The matter is not here in Assembly, it is a Government House issue. Though, I heard that it has been released to some members, while some have not gotten theirs.”
Meanwhile, some concerned indigenes of Ughelli North state constituency 1 and 2 have called on Governor Oborevwori to as a matter of urgency release constituency funds to the lawmakers.
They enthused, “Rt Hon Oborevwori should please give Delta Assembly APC legislators their legal constituency projects funds and all others entitlement due to them.
“You are not the first governor of Delta neither will you be the last. The Delta Assembly since the time of Felix Ibru has never been a one-party assembly and will never be.
“Even Okowa who is advising you now, did not deprived APC legislators and others of their benefits.”
When contacted, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, and the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Festus Ahon, for reaction to the allegations, declined comment as calls made to their telephone lines were neither picked nor returned. Messages sent to the phones were not responded as at the time of filling this report.
