Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, on Thursday March 5, 2026 led a high-powered delegation of lawmakers to the Obior country home of the late former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Sunday Chuks Elue, to commiserate with his bereaved family.
Received by the widow, Lady Esther Elue, alongside children, extended family members, and prominent indigenes of Obior, the Speaker described the deceased as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to Delta State’s growth and Nigeria’s unity remain indelible.
Rt Hon Guwor, who spoke on behalf of the entire Assembly, highlighted Chief Elue’s unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, his exemplary humility, and the cordial working relationship he maintained with the legislature during his tenure as the state’s number two citizen.
“On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former Deputy Governor,” the Speaker said. “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may Almighty God grant the family divine comfort in this moment of grief.”
He further praised Chief Elue’s legacy of service to humanity, noting that it would endure for generations.
The Leader of the House and member representing Aniocha North Constituency, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, who joined the family to receive the delegation, described the late Chief Elue as a leader of great repute whose legendary stature persists even in death.
Family members expressed profound appreciation for the Assembly’s solidarity, describing the visit as a major source of solace and a clear reflection of the high esteem in which the departed statesman was held across the state.
The solemn occasion featured a minute’s silence in honour of the deceased, intercessory prayers for the repose of his soul, words of encouragement for the bereaved, and the signing of a condolence register.
