Delta Bureau, NIMC To Collaborate In Ward To Ward NIN Registration Awareness

Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Oghenesibve, has given an assurance to collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission in area of creating awareness and sensitization about registration of all residents of Delta State for the National Identification Number.

Director General of the Bureau, Dr Fred Oghenesibve gave the assurance in Asaba when the Delta State Coordinator of NIMC led an advocacy visit to the Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications.

The Director General of the Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Oghenesibve who commended President Bola Tinubu for the mandate given to the National Identity Management Commission to register those who have not registered for NIN before, described such exercise as key to effective planning and implementation of government policies and programmes for the citizens.

He stated, ”We thank His Excellency, the President Bola Tinubu for making this move.
When you see responsible government, it’s not difficult to know. The actions and inactions will tell you. And since His Excellency became President, his policies are clear, and they are achievable. If you go to foreign countries , civilized countries, like America, what you see is now happening ,where people are adequately captured. And when you capture them, you now begin to use the data for a lot of things, including security purpose.”

Dr  Oghenesibve posited that the essence of NIN registration would not only be beneficial to the federal government but also to state governments.

Continuing, Oghenesibve stated, ”NIN is so important this day that it’s becoming even our tax ID, that once you are registered under NIN, government is now able to capture you, and adequately able to plan for the number of persons in the country.
It also helps us as a state because His Excellency, the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will also require this type of data to work because every state will have its own data. And these data will also enable government too to plan.”

”Though it’s an effort by the federal government but I can say it’s a collective collaboration. Because it will benefit the federal government, and also benefits the state government. It will also enable us as a state to know the number of persons that will have,”

The Bureau Director General hinted that Governor Oborevworri was  deeply concerned about the welfare of Deltans, and that he actually really wants to know the actual figure of people in the state to ensure the spread of development and the spread of social welfare services as in D- Cares program.

”Back home here in Delta, His Excellency , Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is very concerned about the welfare of Deltans, and he actually really wants to know the actual figure of people in the state so that the spread of development and the spread of social welfare services as we have it in D- Cares program, like we have it in other social welfare programs, then these figures will enable him to effectively plan, and say these are the numbers of persons we have in the state”, Oghenesibve said.

He made a passionate appeal to the management of NIMC to look at the possibility of developing NIN card in such a way that it will have sufficient space for  background information to be captured in the card, not just for the numerical purposes but for security and other purposes.

”I  want to appeal to NIMC Management to also look at the possibility of developing this card in such an extent that it will have sufficient space for people’s background to be captured in this card, not just for the numerical purposes but for the purpose of really getting to know whose citizens are, so that any offence you commit , the agency can also code the offence and what you have done into your NIN card, so that by the time it’s flashed like this, then we are able to get every detail about you . And I know we will get there, it’s a gradual process”, Oghenesibve emphasized.

He expressed the hope that with the initiatives and reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, the country would soon become the pride of all Nigerians.

Doctor Oghenesibve revealed that the Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications, was saddled with the
responsibility of creating awareness and sensitizing the people about government policies and programmes, and as well policizing the achievements of the state governor.

Earlier, the Delta State Coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission, Mrs Grace Obels Robinson said the advocacy visit was to inform the Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications about the forthcoming National Identification Number registration slated to commence on the 19th January 2026, and that the exercise will be for initial period of six weeks, after which it might be extended.

She emphasized that the registration was for those from zero years to infinity who have not registered previously .

Mrs Obels Robinson hinted that  President Bola Tinubu had given the commission mandate to go from ward to ward to register those yet to be captured  for NIN.

She stated, ”The purpose of this visit is to collaborate with you on the President mandate that we should go from ward to ward to register people for NIN.
This time, we are going into villages, riverine areas , everywhere to register people for NIN, those who have not registered before.”

While soliciting the collaboration of the Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications in sensitizing Deltans about the importance of the NIN registration and the need to embrace the exercise, She explained that the exercise would be carried out in collaboration with their trained agents and partners.

”This registration is for those that have not registered before because by now, most Nigerians have gotten their NIN.  We don’t want somebody that has registered before, maybe because he lost his NIN, will come and repeat the registration. No. Both children Zero years to infinity, should come and do this registration. So, that is mainly why we are here, to solicit your collaboration in area of creating awareness and sensitization so that all Deltans and residents in the state will be aware”, Obels Robinson stated.

The Delta State Coordinator of NIMC said so far, over one hundred and seventy seven million Nigerians had been registered for National Identification Number.
