Delta First Lady Commissions Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, Describes Facility as ‘Beacon of Hope’ for Ughelli North

The Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly completed Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital in Ughelli North Local Government Area, describing the project as a “beacon of hope, healing, and humanity” for the people.

The commissioning ceremony, held on December 2, 2025, marked a major milestone in the local government’s push to expand access to healthcare. The initiative, spearheaded by the Chairman of Ughelli North LGA, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, is part of a strategic vision to provide accessible, affordable, and reliable medical services to residents across the council area.

In her heartfelt address, the First Lady expressed profound gratitude to the local government for naming the facility after her. She described the gesture as an honour that acknowledges her modest contributions to the welfare and well-being of Deltans.
“It gladdens my heart to know that my modest contributions are being recognized and valued. It feels good to be home, home sweet home,” she said.

Deaconess Oborevwori commended the council chairman and his team for their determination to “break barriers” and extend quality healthcare to underserved communities. She emphasized that the project aligns strongly with the human-centered development vision of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

Highlighting some of the administration’s achievements in the health sector, she referenced the recent reduction of dialysis fees from ₦75,000 to ₦40,000, the provision of new dialysis and CT scan machines in government hospitals, and the ongoing rehabilitation of 150 Primary Healthcare Centres across the 25 LGAs of the state.

“God will help the governor to achieve more. He is working, and it is showing,” she noted.

Beyond government efforts, the First Lady also spotlighted her humanitarian initiative, You mata Charity Foundation, which recently conducted a free medical outreach for children with special needs in Ughelli. The outreach provided medications, wheelchairs, and other assistive devices. She recalled an emotional highlight where a mother of triplets received over ₦8.1 million from spontaneous donations during the outreach, calling the moment “a testimony of God’s grace.”

She assured that similar outreaches will be extended to Delta North and Delta South in the coming months.

In his remarks, Ughelli North Council Chairman, Hon. Jaro Egbo, said the project forms part of his administration’s broader plan to strengthen the primary healthcare system in the area, stressing that basic health services must be within reach of every citizen.

“Healthcare is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all,” he stated.

Egbo expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for creating an enabling environment for development, noting that the governor’s Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda has powered numerous local projects, including the new cottage hospital. He also praised the First Lady’s compassion and influence, which he described as a source of inspiration to the people of Ughelli North.

He further appealed to community residents to protect the facility from vandalism, emphasizing that sustainability depends on collective responsibility and community ownership.

Chairman of the occasion and head of the Ughelli North Advisory Committee, Chief Miller Uloho, also commended Governor Oborevwori for his “exceptional leadership,” recalling his pivotal role in resolving long-standing land disputes that once threatened the Osubi Airport project. He described the governor as “a naturally gifted leader” whose influence contributed to the successful resumption of flights at the airport.

With the commissioning of the Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, Ughelli North takes a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare delivery and enhancing the well-being of its residents
