The Delta State Government has announced a major ₦3 billion capital investment plan aimed at transforming its media institutions and strengthening public communication infrastructure in the 2026 fiscal year.
The initiative, driven by the Ministry of Information, seeks to reposition state-owned broadcasting and print platforms for modern, technology-driven operations.
The proposal was presented before the Delta State House of Assembly Committee during the defence of the 2026 budget by the Honourable Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu.
He explained that the planned investment aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s broader efforts to enhance government transparency, improve information flow, and revitalise public institutions.
According to Aniagwu, one of the key components of the proposal is a full-scale overhaul of the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) stations located in Warri and Asaba. The comprehensive upgrade is expected to modernise the stations’ equipment, strengthen signal quality, and improve content delivery in line with contemporary broadcasting standards.
The commissioner also disclosed that the government is set to embark on an ambitious revival of The Pointer Newspaper, the state-owned print outfit. The revival plan includes upgrading editorial infrastructure, enhancing digital publishing capacity, and repositioning the newspaper to meet the demands of today’s competitive media landscape.
Aniagwu emphasized that the planned investments reflect the administration’s commitment to equipping public information platforms with the tools necessary to effectively engage citizens and support the state’s development agenda. He noted that strong, credible, and well-supported media institutions are essential for fostering accountability, promoting government programmes, and amplifying community voices.
The budget proposal is currently under consideration by the House Committee, with expectations that the reforms will significantly boost the visibility and efficiency of public communication in Delta State once implemented.
