Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is leading a major public transportation reform with the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses.
According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary, the initiative is designed to reduce transportation costs, cut down carbon emissions and generate employment across the state.
The Oborevwori administration is committed to building a cleaner, more affordable, and sustainable transport system. A key part of this plan is the rollout of CNG-powered buses, which are expected to significantly lower fuel expenses and support environmental sustainability.
To support the shift from petrol to CNG, the state government is setting up CNG bus conversion plants. These facilities will retrofit existing petrol-powered vehicles and also serve as training centers for local technicians, helping to develop in-state expertise in CNG vehicle conversion and maintenance.

In partnership with NIPCO Gas and Electra Motors, the government has launched CNG Conversion Centres in Asaba. These centres are equipped with modern technology to safely and efficiently convert both private and commercial vehicles to CNG.
This initiative is aligned with Nigeria’s national energy transition strategy and reinforces the MORE Agenda’s focus on sustainable development and economic relief for Delta State residents.
