Delta govt to renovate 150 primary heathcare centres – Commissioner for Health, Onajaeme

In its commitment to improving healthcare service delivery, the Delta State Government has embarked on a major initiative, beginning with the renovation of 150 health centres and two-bedroom staff units in the first phase out of a total of 441 centres across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this during a meeting with Health Fellows at his office in Asaba.

Dr Onojaeme emphasised that well-equipped primary health centres are key to addressing 80 per cent of the state’s health challenges.

The Health Commissioner commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for his commitment to enhancing the health sector, describing him as a good listener and a detribalised Deltan.

He assured the Health Fellows of the Governor’s continued dedication to improving healthcare and highlighted the state’s support to local governments, noting that over 200 health workers have been deployed.

Dr. Onojaeme urged the Health Fellows to always report any challenges they encounter to the Ministry and promised to organise a meeting between the Fellows and Executive Secretaries from the 25 local government areas to bridge the gap between them.

Earlier, a Health Fellow from Warri South West, Benko Ani, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, raised concerns about their exclusion from some government health activities and appealed for more training opportunities.
