Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has unveiled a modern investigation room to the Delta State Police Command for the speedy Administration of the Criminal Justice Law in the state.

Governor Oborevwori, on Tuesday, handed over the equipment worth millions of naira to the Delta State Police Command, at the State Criminal Investigation Department, police headquarters in Asaba, Delta State capital.

Represented by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, Governor Oborevwori stated that a functional justice and police system requires dedicated personnel, the right tools and infrastructure to support effective policing.

He said, “It gives me great pleasure to stand before you today on behalf of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, to commission this modern investigation room at the Police Headquarters in Asaba.

“This investigation room will provide the police with a properly equipped space to record statements, conduct interrogations, and ensure that investigations are carried out professionally, transparently, and in line with the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

“With this facility, we are strengthening the ability of our police officers to carry out their duties. Security remains a top priority for this administration because a safe and secure Delta State is essential for economic growth, social stability, and development.

“The Delta State Security Trust Fund played a crucial role in delivering this project, and I sincerely commend the dedication of the Fund to the implementation of this administration’s MORE agenda” Oborevwori noted.

Speaking further, the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Security Trust Fund, Mr Samuel Osasa, stated that most suspects deny confessional statements made under interrogation when taken to court, a development he said has been a major challenge to the implementation of the criminal justice law in the state.

Osasa highlighted some of the major equipment donated, including a CCTV camera, a 6-channel DVR, BNC, power generator, six-channel power supply, provision of desktop laptop computers, finger scanning machine, instant photo printer, Wi-Fi modem, router and other accessories, among others.
