Delta Police Command boosts security ahead of yuletide festivities

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, the Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining sustainable peace and security across the state in Nigeria’s south-south region.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Bright Edafe, indicated that the command was recording milestones in the fight against criminalities in Ughelli, Sapele, Ekpang, Warri and environs.

Edafe stated that the mandate of the Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, to tactical commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and others is to ensure “Deltans must sleep with two eyes closed.” 

He further stated, “As we are approaching the yuletide season, the commissioner for Police has directed the deputy commissioner operations to ensure that the order for ember months is duly complied with.”

Edafe also noted that the police command recorded some achievements, such as the recovery of sophisticated firearms, smashed robbery gangs, foiled kidnapping attempts and successfully rescuing survivors

He attributed the successes recorded to the gathering of intensive Intel on a syndicate specialising in kidnapping, armed robbery, car snatching, and defrauding unsuspecting victims bank accounts via SIM swap around Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, Oghara, Abraka and their environs.

He indicated that during a raid on a kidnappers hideout, the police command recovered two AK 47 rifles, one K2 rifle, two automatic pump action guns, one locally made cut-to-size gun, five (5) AK 47 rifle magazines, three (3) K2 rifle magazines, One Hundred and One (101) k2 rifle live ammunition, two (2) handcuffs and ten (10) live cartridges.

Edafe further revealed that the Commissioner for Police Special Assignment Team, with the support of local hunters, recovered more ammunition, guns, cash, and phones, including vehicles snatched at gunpoint, manhunts have been launched to apprehend suspects who escaped.

The police public relations officer indicated that the command also burst an illegal drug manufacturing factory and recovered several illicit and prohibited drugs, apprehended the drug dealers, and seized the vehicle used by the dealers.

“Sequel to Intel gathered from various people involved in different nefarious activities and who confessed to patronizing drug cartels to get fixes, operatives of CP – Special Assignment Team commenced raiding of an identified illicit drug house.

“We uncovered a warehouse situated along Shell Road Area of Sapele Town used for manufacturing and storage of the illicit drugs. Drugs recovered at the warehouse included multiple bottles of codeine, sachets of tramadol, marijuana, sachets of phenol drug named Canadian Loud and other prohibited drugs,” he stated.

While explaining that investigations into the cases were ongoing, he urged the public to support the police in their fight to enshrine peace and security in Delta State.
