The Delta State Police Command has announced plans to step up enforcement of traffic regulations and related revenue offences across the state with immediate effect. The announcement was made in a public notice issued on Tuesday by SP Edafe Bright, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer.
According to him, the move follows official confirmation from the Delta State Judiciary, through the Office of the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, on behalf of the Chief Judge, Justice T.O. Diai, that designated Mobile Courts are now operational in different parts of the state.
He explained that the Mobile Courts has the authority to summarily try traffic offenders and other violators in line with existing laws. As a result, the Command will intensify surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations on major roads and in key urban centers such as Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli, and Agbor, as well as other parts of the state.
Offences including reckless driving, driving against traffic, use of unauthorized number plates, operating vehicles without registration numbers, illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, obstruction, and other traffic violations will lead to immediate arrest and prosecution before the Mobile Courts.
The police advised residents to comply with traffic laws and other regulations, stressing that the Command will not tolerate any form of lawlessness. It warned that there will be zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline, obstruction of law enforcement officers, or attempts to evade arrest.
The Command emphasized that the enforcement drive is not intended to punish residents but to restore order, enhance road safety, protect lives and property, and promote adherence to the law. Law-abiding citizens, it noted, have nothing to worry about, while offenders should be ready to face the consequences.
The statement added that the Command, under the leadership of CP Aina Adesola, remains committed to maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law.
