The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing offensive against crime, arresting suspected criminals in separate operations in Asaba and recovering a cache of stolen items.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday, attributing the successes to the proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategy championed by the State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda.
On August 16, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) mounted a routine stop-and-search along DBS Road, Asaba, where they intercepted a 39-year-old suspect, Bassey Udoh, carrying a cross bag. A search led to the discovery of an English-made Beretta pistol in his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed links between the suspect and a burglary syndicate operating within the state. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation on August 11, 2025, operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad, working in collaboration with the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NHSS), apprehended two suspects over a stolen motorcycle.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Precious Okoro and 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu, were arrested following intelligence-led patrols. Investigations revealed that Okoro, an ex-convict, had only been released from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on August 6 after serving a two-year jail term for motorcycle theft.
A subsequent search of their residence led to the recovery of two power-generating sets, an iron measuring scale, and other items suspected to have been stolen.
The Command reassured members of the public that it remains committed to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-based policing in order to curb criminal activity across Delta State.
