Delta Police Pursue Chief, Suspects After Fatal Shooting of Three Youths

The Delta State Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, along with members of the armed group linked to the brutal attack that left three young men dead on 24th November 2025 near ‘B’ Division in Asaba.

According to early findings, Chief Nkeeshe allegedly led a team made up of vigilantes and suspected cult members—some reportedly dressed in Army camouflage to a disputed piece of land in Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha Road. The group was said to be attempting to forcefully take possession of the land and issued an illegal quit notice without any court authorization.

The situation quickly escalated when they met resistance. The armed group allegedly opened fire indiscriminately, shooting three young men who later died from their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units, intelligence teams, and investigators to track down and arrest everyone involved. He strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an unprovoked, reckless, and blatant act of lawlessness that the Command will not tolerate.

The CP also urged residents of Onicha-Olona, Asaba, and nearby communities to assist the police by providing useful information. He stressed that the Command is determined to ensure that every suspect regardless of status, influence, or connections is arrested and made to face justice.

He assured the public that calm has been restored in the affected area and that ongoing surveillance, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated search operations are in place to prevent further unrest.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity or sightings of the suspects through its emergency line: 08036684974.
