The Delta State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a kidnapped woman and the arrest of suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across the state, reaffirming its commitment to fighting crime and maintaining public safety.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, the coordinated operations were carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, who commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism.
Kidnap Victim Rescued Unharmed
On October 12, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., armed men invaded a residence in Ovian Aladja, assaulted the occupants, and abducted a woman. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Friday Ekundayo, upon receiving the distress call at about 2:00 p.m., immediately mobilized his men to track down the suspects.
After a coordinated pursuit, the operatives traced the kidnappers to a forest near Iyara community. Facing intense pressure from the police, the abductors abandoned the victim and fled. The woman was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects continue.
Drug Barons Arrested in Effurun
In a separate operation the same day, at about 5:00 a.m., operatives of the Crack Squad, Delta State Command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a hideout in Effurun GRA and arrested 33-year-old Igwe Samson and 39-year-old Abalum Sunday for alleged drug trafficking.
A search of their Toyota Sienna vehicle led to the discovery of 450 bottles of CSP codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol (100mg), 300 sachets of Swinol, 100 sachets of Tramadol (500mg), 50 sachets of Rohypnol, and a large bag of cannabis. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had been in the illicit trade for over two years, sourcing drugs from Onitsha and transporting them at night to evade detection.
CP Abaniwonda’s Warning to Youths
CP Olufemi Abaniwonda applauded the operatives for their gallantry and reiterated the Command’s resolve to rid Delta State of criminal activities. He cautioned young people to steer clear of drug abuse and illicit trade, warning that substance abuse remains a major driver of crime and poses severe risks to health and wellbeing.
“The Delta State Police Command will continue to pursue criminals and dismantle drug networks across the state,” the Commissioner said. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.”
