As matches of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) kick-off this weekend, the Delta State Sports Commission has officially unveiled the Delta Queens squad for the 2025/2026 season in a colourful ceremony held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, who performed the unveiling, expressed strong optimism about the team’s readiness, assuring that the state government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will leave no stone unturned in providing logistical, financial and moral support to the Queens.
“Delta Queens remain a symbol of pride, resilience and excellence for our dear state. This administration is totally committed to the growth of women’s football and we will give the team everything it needs to compete favourably and bring more laurels home,” Hon. Oborevwori declared.
The chairman charged the players and technical crew to approach the new season with total dedication, noting that their performances continue to inspire thousands of young girls across Delta State and beyond to take up the round leather game.
The NWFL Premiership, which officially commences on November 26, 2025, will see the defending champions Delta Queens begin their title defence with a tricky away fixture against perennial rivals Nasarawa Amazons.
Fans and stakeholders have already tipped the Asaba-based side as one of the frontrunners for the title, with the newly unveiled squad boasting a perfect blend of experienced campaigners and exciting youngsters.
As the countdown to the new season reaches fever pitch, all eyes will be on the Delta Queens to once again fly the flag of Delta State high in women’s football.
